How To Use:

This portfolio charting tool is designed to help investors visualize and analyze the performance of multiple investment portfolios over time. It offers a powerful way to compare different investment strategies, assess the impact of leveraged ETFs, and understand the effects of various factors such as fees, rebalancing, and dollar-cost averaging on your investments. This tool is invaluable for both novice and experienced investors looking to make data-driven decisions about their investment strategies.

  1. Ticker: Enter the ticker symbol for the ETF, stock, etc.
  2. Percentage: Enter the percentage of each ticker making up a portfolio.
    • Percentage Totals must equal 100%.
  3. Select Your Time Period: Choose between historic options, preset options, or a custom date range.
  4. Monetary Investment: Enter the initial amount you want to invest.
  5. (Optional) Rebalance: Select the frequency at which you want to rebalance your portfolio (e.g., yearly, monthly, etc.).
  6. (Optional) Dollar Cost Average (DCA): Enter the amount and frequency for regular additional investments.
  7. (Optional) Simple Moving Average (SMA): Option to display SMA lines on the stock price chart.
  8. Click Submit: Click the submit button to generate the charts and data.

This advanced feature allows you to simulate custom leveraged ETFs and include them in your portfolio analysis.

To use leveraged tickers:

  1. Ticker: Enter the ticker symbol for the ETF, stock, etc.
  2. Leverage: If you want leverage, check the leverage box and select a leverage level ranging from -5x to +5x.
  3. Fees%: Enter the fee amount. Most ETFs have fees that reduce performance. Leveraged ETFs typically have around a 1% fee.
  4. Fed Fund%: This option considers the average annual Federal Reserve Fund rate/fee (downloaded from https://www.federalreserve.gov/datadownload). Leveraged ETFs borrow money to provide leverage, and this data is sourced from the Fed's website. This option will further reduce performance since borrowing incurs costs.
  5. Circuit Breaker: The Fed has market circuit breakers that halt trading when the market falls 20% or more. This option simulates this action. It is useful for backtesting, as it helps to see the difference circuit breakers make, especially since they are a relatively new mechanism.
  6. Select Your Time Period: Choose the desired time period for the analysis.
  7. Click Submit: Click the submit button to generate the chart.
  8. Source Data: Yahoo Finance, Adjusted Close Stock Price
